My unit is focused on the Ho Chunk Nation. I chose to create a unit on the Ho Chunk because we are residing on their land and I feel that it is important that the students in the schools understand more about the peoples who occupied this land before the settlers move in.
My Lessons are as follows:
Lesson 1: Warm up activity to stress the importance of being respectful of other cultures practices and beliefs.
Lesson 2: An introduction to the Ho Chunk and the traditional make up of their government.
Lesson 3: A lesson on Ho Chunk beliefs and practices along with the importance of effigy mounds
Lesson 4: An activity about treaties where the class and I create a treaty together.
Lesson 5: A lesson which shows the students through maps how treaties forced the Ho Chunk to relocate around the Midwest.
